The Municipality of Plaridel is a first-class municipality located on the northern seaboard of Misamis Occidental, within the 1st Congressional District, approximately 25 kilometers from Oroquieta City, the provincial capital.
Formerly known as the municipality of Langaran, the town was renamed Plaridel on February 28, 1914, by virtue of Philippine Legislature Act No. 2390. Over time, several municipalities were created from its original territory, namely Baliangao, Lopez Jaena, Concepcion, Sapang Dalaga, and Calamba.
Plaridel has a total land area of 80 square kilometers or 8,000 hectares and a 16-kilometer coastline. It is composed of 33 barangays, consisting of 7 urban and 26 rural barangays. As of 2024 CBMS Survey, the municipality has a population of 40,321 individuals, with a population density of approximately 504 persons per square kilometer.
The municipality has a generally fair climate, with temperatures ranging from 21°C to 34°C, and a landscape that varies from level to steeply sloping terrain. Cebuano is the primary language, and most residents can speak and write English.
Plaridel’s economy is mainly agriculture-based, producing coconut, rice, corn, vegetables, fruits, and root crops, supported by livestock and poultry. The municipality is equipped with reliable water, power, communication, health, and education services, and operates a municipal port with regular routes to Siquijor, Bohol, and Cebu.
